‘Friday Night Lights’
Children: Julie and baby Gracie
High-school football coach Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler) and his principal wife Tami (Connie Britton) have only two biological children, but they play a central role in the lives of most of the Panthers football team. On the homefront, the birth of baby Gracie proves far more challenging than other on-screen babies, as the Taylors have to deal with an infant and a hormonally-charged Julie, who begins to sow her wild oats. They Taylors aren’t sitcom-perfect, but that’s just another reason to love them.

On Wednesday, in commemoration of International Women’s Day this week, ONE is bringing that message to Capitol Hill with a photo exhibit called Women Who Go Beyond: Success Stories from Africa. The exhibit premiere is taking place tomorrow at 1:30 pm in Russell Building Rotunda, a beautiful space located in the heart of Capitol Hill. There, ONE will be joined by Cindy McCain, a humanitarian in her own right and wife of Senator John McCain and actress Connie Britton of NBC’s television drama Friday Night Lights. If you live in the D.C. area, please join us tomorrow for the 1:30 pm exhibit premiere, or come see it anytime this week during normal business hours.
The exhibit features photos taken during a recent trip that ONE led to Ghana and Sierra Leone with Cindy McCain and Connie Britton, along with seven other prominent women, including Dana Perino, a former White House Press Secretary and Maureen Orth, an award-winning journalist and Vanity Fair Special Correspondent. On that trip, the ONE group had the privilege to join a leading poverty-fighting organization, CARE, in Sierra Leone where the entire group was able to come together and share how they could bring their experiences and professional expertise to the movement against extreme poverty and preventable disease.

George in New Hampshire: Any news on Fringe or Friday Night Lights or The Vampire Diaries?
Ta-daaah! I give you all three. Vampire Diaries boss Julie Plec told me she’d love to get “Pacey” (Joshua Jackson, holler!) over to Mystic Falls–if by chance somehow his schedule happened to open up. (She worked with him on Dawson’s Creek.) But curses for her and awesomeness for us Fringe fans: It got an early pickup! So Josh, for the time being, may be too busy to guest on TVD, but Julie is working on it. She also told me, “I’d love to have Taylor Kitsch or anyone from Friday Night Lights,” so this girl is so after my own heart it’s not even funny. Perhaps Paul and Taylor can have an ab-off for no real storyline purposes whatsoever than they “lose” their shirts? Hey, if ABC can show Bachelor Jake sudsing his abs for 10 minutes, why not TVD?

I want you to meet Jeneba, an amazing and vibrant little girl I got to know during a recent visit to a children’s hospital in Sierra Leone. Today, Jeneba is a walking, smiling, laughing success story.
But when she arrived at the hospital, she was dangerously ill with pneumonia and tuberculosis, diseases that kill millions of children every year in the developing world. Jeneba’s story is an example of how maternal and child health care programs, supported in part by the United States, are changing the landscape in places where health care has been so perilously unavailable.
