Fuel/Friends Music Blog: The musical brilliance of Friday Night Lights

Fuel/Friends: Do you specifically emphasize regional or local music in setting the West Texas feel? the Gourds, Explosions in the Sky or are you going for an overall atmosphere of folks American Catapult, AA Bondy, or Ryan Adams who aren’t from Texas, but feel like they could be?

Liza Richardson: I do try to focus on Texas music, I mean I went to college at SMU in Dallas and I was in radio for four years after college in Dallas – that’s where I learned to DJ, that’s where I started really learning about music and I’ve brought that to my work with Friday Night Lights, happily. But there’s so much music like Townes Van Zandt and Roky Erickson, two examples of musicians that I’m fanatical about but have never been able to convince everyone about. Song selection is a process, and I’m not the boss — I present ideas and they get chosen by editors and directors. So I really do try, but ultimately it’s up to them and they’re gonna pick what feels good and what feels right for the show. There’s a wider audience than Texas.

WTAM Talks to Michael B. Jordan at the Emmys

Posted by Kaitlin with No Comments

Not every actor has the opportunity to star on three Emmy-nominated television shows, pal around Europe with Ne-Yo and Method Man while working on a George Lucas Film, and start his own production company, all before the age of 23. But for Michael B. Jordan this is the fortuitous turn his career has taken.

The current star of NBC’s “Friday Night Lights” let iheartradio tag-along with him as he attended his first Primetime Emmy® Awards after party. As an alum of HBO favorite “The Wire,” Jordan was able to reunite with old friends, party on HBO’s tab, and ogle “Entourage” star Emmanuelle Chriqui. Here’s an exclusive peek behind the velvet rope.

Was this your first time participating in the Emmy festivities? If so, what was it like?
I have been to the Daytime Emmys during my run on “All My Children” a few years ago and that was an incredible experience, but rubbing shoulders with Primetime nominees and winners was amazing. It’s some place I’ve imagined I would be sooner or later and it feels great to say I was there.

E!: Connie Britton Promises Friday Night Farewell Tears

Posted by Amy with No Comments

Finally! The extraordinary and gifted Connie Britton finally got her long-deserved Emmy nomination this year, and while she sadly didn't take home the trophy in her category (that prize went to Kyra Sedgwick for The Closer), she did enjoy the chance to celebrate Friday Night Lights.

When I caught up with her at HBO's fabulous afterparty, she promised us die-hard fans, “You're going to cry your eyes out for three straight episodes at the end [of the series].”

EW: Emmy Video: ‘FNL’ stars Chandler and Britton on ’satisfying’ fifth season and a possible sixth!

Posted by Amy with No Comments

I rarely let my emotions get the best of me, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t get a little verklempt by the sight of Friday Night Lights‘ long overdue Emmy contenders Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton walking the red carpet yesterday as full-fledged nominees. So they didn’t win. Big deal. The positive buzz surrounding FNL‘s fifth and final season all but ensures they’ll be in the running again next year. But back to this year’s event, watch what went down on the red carpet with Britton and Chandler before the ceremony (hint: lots of silliness, an impromptu purse search, and talk of a possible—make that impossible—sixth season).
