They get to the cash register and Billy is putting items back because he feels like the bill is too high. Tim wants to buy a magazine but Billy will not pay for it. Tyra shows up and offers to buy the magazine for Tim. Tim has a huge smile on his face and wants to stay behind with Tyra. Tyra and Tim end up making out in the stock area of the store.
Lyla Garrity is visiting Jason Street at the Rehab Center and she is kissing him around his body and testing him to see if he can feel the kisses. Jason then asks Lyla straight out if something is happening between Tim and her. Lyla says that there is nothing going on between them. Lyla tells Jason that she loves him and then Jason tells her that he had to ask her. Lyla kisses Jason but Jason has a look on his face as if he still doesn’t believe her.

Smash Williams is at a local gym purchasing steroids from a woman. Smash is worried if the drugs will show up on a drug test and then he’s shocked at how much the drugs cost. He thinks it will be $300 a month but it’s $300 a week.
Smash is trying to get money from his mother. He said he needs $1,200 for an SAT prep course but he’s trying to get money for steroids. He’s telling his mother that he really needs help and begs her for the money.
At practice Smash is playing really hard and really well. Billy Riggins visits the practice and asks Coach Taylor if Tim should consider applying for colleges. Billy wants to talk about Tim’s future after his good game because he knows there were scouts at the game when Tim performed well. Coach Taylor invites Billy and Tim out to diner.
Tami Taylor is talking to a Rally Girl, April about her future. April is really nervous and then tells Tami that her Panther (football player) wants her to do a three-way. She is really nervous and is not sure if she should really do it or not. Tami shuts the door and talks with her.
Landry Clarke is talking to Matt Saracen about his love life. Landry compares what Matt needs to do to doing math. The Taylor’s show up and Julie Taylor wants to make the order on her own at Alamo Freeze. Julie is coming into the store to make an order. Matt makes a joke about her large order. Matt brings up the fact that he asked her to go out on a date. Julie tells Matt that she’s considering it.
In the car as Julie is ordering, Tami is telling Coach Taylor about the Rally girl that went into her office saying that a football player is being asked to do a three-way. Tami brings up the fact that she’s a sophomore and that Julie is a sophomore.
Smash Williams walks into Alamo Freeze with his sister and asks Matt about his job. Smash needs money and wants to know how much they pay. Smash then asks Matt if he can get an application. Matt does more then that, he’s going to talk to the manager about getting Smash a job.
Lyla Garrity knocks on Tim Riggins’ door. Tim answers and then Lyla tells Tim that Jason knows about them being together. Tim is a little stunned at first but he doesn’t understand how Jason could know. Tyra comes to the door behind Tim and then asks Lyla how Jason is doing. Lyla lies and says she’s there to invite Tim to something that Jason is doing at the Rehab Center.
At the Rehab Center, a bunch of the guys are playing cards, including Herc, Jason’s roommate. Jason excitedly announces that he’s read to play in a scrimmage to everyone. Phil gives Jason a hard reality check about playing Quad Rugby and that playing is dangerous and that he could hurt himself further.
Tami catches up with Lyla to talk and then Lyla breaks down and starts crying. Lyla tells Tami everything that happened between her and Tim Riggins. Tami advices her to tell Jason the truth and that they should both move on with their lives.
Julie tells her parents that Matt Saracen asked her out on a date. Coach Taylor is curious about her answer. Julie tells him that she was “considering”
Smash is at Alamo Freeze with Matt and Matt is trying to train Smash but he’s not really paying attention. An attractive female customer walks in and Smash is flirting with her and offers her a free ice cream. He tells Matt that you don’t ask customers what they want, you tell them what they want and then Smash goes over to the customer’s seat and starts talking to her.
Tami Taylor goes into Julie’s room and wants to talk to her about the fact that Julie Taylor was asked out on a date. Tami is concerned especially after hearing all these stories as a counselor. Julie thinks Tami is freaking out because she was asked out on a date.
Smash tells Matt that his nickname should be “the accountant”. Matt is worried because he’s short on his register but it’s only for a dollar and ten cents. Matt is counting his register and Smash is tempted by all the money that Matt has in his hands from the register. Smash goes into his car and takes some more steroid pills.
Jason and Herc are racing each other with wheelchairs. Herc reminds Jason that Phil and his doctor are advising him not to play. Herc then tells Jason that he really does believe that Lyla did cheat on him. Jason is really upset by what Herc is saying but it’s because he knows it is true. Jason rams his chair into Herc and they both fall out of their wheelchairs. Jason asks Herc if he has a secret way of getting back into his chair. Herc says he does and then he starts yelling for Phil. Jason joins in with Herc as they both yell for Phil.

Billy Riggins is upset and yelling on the phone. It looks like Billy is getting fired from yet another job. Billy is upset at Tim now and doesn’t like what he is eating and wants him to clean himself up before the go to dinner with the Taylor’s.
Tami tells Coach Taylor that Julie is on the phone with Matt Saracen. Coach tells Tami that Matt is a good kid but Tami doesn’t really trust him because he’s about to become the star quarterback of their high school team. The doorbell rings and it is Billy and Tim showing up for dinner.
Smash is eating an ice cream at the Alamo Freeze. A customer walks in and Matt takes her order. Smash is standing next to Matt and Matt tries to tell her what she wants instead of just listening to her order. Matt is trying to be like Smash but he is struggling with it and then he just gets her what she orders. Smash thinks Matt needs more practice with the customers but it’s ok because today is payday. Matt tells Smash that he probably won’t get a check till the end of the month because he is new and it takes a while for the payroll to process. Smash is upset that he will not get paid.
The Riggins are over Coach Taylor’s house for dinner and Billy is telling everyone about a time he ran into the wrong end zone. He’s talking Timmy up and then asks Coach Taylor if Tim could play college ball. Billy talks down about his father in front of the Taylor’s and Tim doesn’t really take it well. Tim then knocks over a drink on Billy and Billy gets upset.
Coach Taylor goes to the rehab to talk to Jason Street. Coach Taylor is in a wheelchair and in a gym with Jason and he’s giving Coach a taste of what Quad Rugby is about. Jason tells coach that he really wants to do the Quad Rugby because all he ever did was think about football and that he needs to do something with his competitive feelings. Coach Taylor tells Jason that he should go with his heart on whether he will play or not.

Smash is in the back room with the register and Matt sees him handling the money. Smash tries to act like he wasn’t thinking about taking the money and walks out of the store. Matt follows Smash outside and is asking him about stealing. Matt is afraid that he will get in trouble if Smash does something bad at his job. Smash then complains to Matt about his bad game. Matt then asks Smash why he needs all that money for. Smash tells him that he thought he needed it but that he doesn’t feel that way anymore.
Coach Taylor is asking Julie about her dating situation while they play ping-pong together. Julie doesn’t really want to talk about it. Coach Taylor says that he’s supposed to give her some fatherly advice and he tells Julie about how guys are. He tells her that football players could be the worse because Tami asked him to say that. He tells Julie that she’s beautiful and sensitive and that he doesn’t want to see her get hurt.
Tim comes home and throws his bag on the ground. Billy and Tim start to argue about Tyra. Then Billy puts Lyla in Tim’s face, and then Billy starts comparing Tim to their father. Tim gets really upset about Billy talking bad about their father. Billy then asks Tim when the last time he’s heard from their Mom or Dad. Tim finally gets fed up and starts to fight Billy. Billy tells Tim that he’s sick of watching him throw away his football talent but then Tim tells Billy that he’s worse then his father and that he would be better off on his own.

Herc and Jason are getting ready to play Quad Rugby. Jason and Lyla are there to see him play. They are playing really rough. Herc takes the ball away from Jason and scores with Jason chasing him down. Jason chases Herc down a second time and runs into another player and falls on the ground. There is a pause in the crowd and for Tim and Lyla because they are a little worried Jason might not be alright but he is ok. Jason continues to play. Jason gets the ball and throws a good pass for his teammate. His teammate catches the ball and scores. Jason takes the ball away from Herc this time. Jason takes a pass and rolls all the way and scores.
Coach Taylor tells Tami that he spoke to Julie and that she has received some good fatherly advice. Julie then walks into the room and tells them that she is going on a date with Matt and that the time and date will be announced later.
Smash and his family are at church and they are singing. There are some prayer requests that the Reverend has received and he begins to read them out loud. There is a prayer request for Smash Williams. His mother makes a request for him for his SAT studies. The Pastor asks the church to give an offering for Smash Williams. (Smash gave up on getting the money but now he will have the money for steroids and not the SAT’s)
Jason gets complimented by his friends after the Quad Rugby match. Tim walks over to Jason to congratulate him but Jason takes a swing at Tim. Jason is yelling at Tim to come back and face him. He knows that he was with Lyla. Jason is also upset with Lyla and tells her to get away from him and to go.
Tim comes home and sees Billy in the kitchen making something to eat. Billy notices Tim’s eye. Tim tells Billy that Jason punched him. Billy and Tim are both miserably sitting together as Billy eats his grilled cheese sandwich and Tim eats the other half.
Smash takes the money that was raised at the Prayer Meeting and goes to the gym to meet the woman to buy more steroids.

Season 1 Episode 8 Quotes

Posted by Kaitlin with No Comments

Smash’s Mother: I’m gonna say this as plain as I know how. I ain’t got no twelve hundred dollars. How about you try studying for your SAT’s the old fashion way? Quit running around with them fast tailed gals and get your lazy ass upstairs and start reading. How’s that for your SAT prep course?

Tami: Are you okay, April?
April: My Panther wants me to do a three-way.
Tami: Oh.
April: Yeah, and–
Tami: Hey, you know what; I’m just gonna close this door.
April: He says that all the Rally girls do it. You know, I know a ton who have, I just, I haven’t, but I really like him. And uh…And he says that if I do it I’ll be his girlfriend, so…

Landry: Matt, that’s the thing you’re not listening to me. If you look at a girl like a geometry proof the answer is just right in front of you. It’s your job to find the missing variable. You gotta solve for x.
Matt: Yeah, um, that’s actually algebra.
Landry: That’s actually not the point.

Coach Taylor: All right, listen up. I’m supposed to give you some fatherly and wise advice at this time in your life. Listen up, if you’re wondering if a boy’s thinking about you, he’s not. He’s thinking about sex or he’s hungry, those are the only two options.
Julie: Are you trying to be funny?
Coach Taylor: No, I’m not finished, listen to me. Boys think about sex every single minute of the day. That’s what they do, that’s why they lie. They’re gonna leave you waiting around for them to call and they won’t call. They’re gonna be cruel and they’re gonna be misleading, and your mother wanted me to add this, that by in large football players are the worst offenders, however, I think that it pretty much crosses all lines.
Julie: Are you done?
Coach Taylor: You are beautiful, you are sensitive, you are sweet and I don’t want to see you get hurt.
Julie: I love you too Dad.

Julie: So, it’s pretty obvious that both of you have a sudden weird curiosity into my social life, so in interest of full disclosure I would like to tell both of you, that I’m going on a date with Matt Saracen, time and place to be announced. Good night.
Coach Taylor: Good night, hon.
Tami: Good night, sweetheart

His performance is full of low-lights in this game.
Half-Time

Second Half
Dillon has the ball and Smash Williams gets the ball again and he is stopped and he fumbles. A Laribee player picks up the fumble and returns it for a touchdown and the Panthers are losing the game in the 3rd quarter 17-0
Smash gets upset and throws his helmet on the ground. Coach switches the game plan and decides to give the ball to Tim Riggins instead of Smash.
The new game plan is working so far. The Coach is going to keep giving the ball to Riggins and ignore Smash. Tim is successfully running right up the middle and shows his power by running through people as he runs for a touchdown. The score is now 17-14 the Panthers are still losing. Coach Taylor is going to stick with Tim, and he runs the ball in for another touchdown. Matt Saracen throws a screen to Tim and he runs down the sideline for yet another touchdown. Smash is dejected but Tim Riggins played the game of his life and the Dillon Panthers win the game.
The team runs into the locker room excited and Coach Taylor gives the game ball to Tim Riggins for his great effort. The locker room is happy and cheering and the team wants Tim to give a speech. Tim says he’s not really good at talking but he says that the Coach is right that there is one team, and one heart and he says that the team gets its heart from Jason Street and gives the game ball to Jason.
The team cheers loudly and is happy but Smash walks out of the locker room alone and upset.
Panther’s Field house–Smash feels like he wasted his one chance and he’s emotional because he feels like he messed up. He is apologizing to his family about how bad he played.
Billy and Tyra’s party is in full swing and there is plenty of drinks and loud music. Landry and the rest of the kids are trying to talk to strippers and they are enjoying themselves.
Smash goes to Grady’s house to ask if he will make the list. Grady tells Smash that he doesn’t want to hear any excuses and tells Smash that he should work on his strength and size. Smash just wants to know if he will make the list but Grady says that the list comes out in January.
At the party Julie says hello to Matt. Matt is still very nervous around her but he still tries to talk to her. Matt asks Julie if she will go on a date with him. When Julie pauses Matt quickly tries to back out of it.
In the morning there is litter everywhere and the party is over. Billy wakes up and sees Lyla counting money. Tyra says they made $4,680 from the party. Billy and Tyra are laughing and sharing a moment of happiness for all the money they made at the party.

Smash: Look, no disrespect, sir. I just want to say flat out. If you got a list, I don’t just want to be on it. I want to be number one.
Grady: Well I hope you can play as good as you talk. Now’s your time, son. Show me what you got.
Smash: Thank You.

Lyla: I think you should come.
Jason: I don’t know. I still don’t know if I’m ready to face everybody yet. You know, it’s embarrassing being the center of attention and all.
Lyla: Like you’re not used to that.
Jason: Well, for football maybe, but not for being hurt. I mean, come on, it’s like “Hey everybody come check out the freak show, don’t feed the animals”.
Lyla: It’s not like that. People just want to see you, you know? I miss you.
Jason: Is that right?
Lyla: hmm.

Coach Taylor: All right, listen up! Listen, now. Y’all ought to be real proud of yourselves. That was a hell of an effort tonight. That was a hell of a game. I don’t know how in the hell, he did, or where he came from to do, or what have you, but I know who this game ball goes to. (hands football to Tim Riggins) That was one hell of a game. All of y’all, that was one hell of a game!

Coach Taylor: Let me tell you something you’re a prospect. There’s gonna be a lot of Grady Hunts coming in and out of here in the next few years looking at you.
Smash: You think so?
Coach Taylor: I know so. And I’ll tell you something else, Grady Hunt is not gonna make or break number 20, you are. You go out there tonight and you focus on this game. You focus on this game alone. You’ll be fine. You understand me?
Smash: Yes, sir. You’re right.

At the Sandwich Shop Matt Saracen and Landry Clarke are hanging out with a kid named Kaster. Smash Williams introduces Matt to a girl. Kaster makes a smart remark about Smash and the football players as Matt goes over to talk to Smash. Voodoo Tatom walks in and says he wants a burger and fries. Smash is upset that Voodoo is there and says he has a problem with him being there. Voodoo makes a racial remark about Reyes and then the Dillon football players stand up and get in the face of Voodoo and his friends. Voodoo tries to make Tim flinch but Tim steps in-between Voodoo and warns him about starting trouble. Voodoo and his friends leave.
The decision on Ray Voodoo Tatom’s eligibility is announced on TV and they haven’t come to a conclusion on it. They did not issue a final ruling.
Landry and Kaster walk over to Matt and ask him if he needs a ride but Matt says that he’s going to stay there a minute and talk to the other football players. Kaster makes a remark about football players and how meaningless a football game is.
Reyes is upset by all the remarks Kaster made and goes after him outside. Reyes confronts Kaster and then pushes him; he’s offended by Kaster calling him and his friends dumb football players. Reyes then starts pushing and then beating Kaster on the ground.
Smash and Tim come out and break up the fight. Matt and Landry are attending to Kaster on the ground.
At football practice Matt Saracen is running practice as the quarterback. Ray Voodoo Tatom is complaining to Coach Taylor that he isn’t getting any snaps.
Matt asks Reyes about what happened with him and Kaster. Reyes just tells Matt that Kaster dissed them and Matt was confused because he didn’t understand why they would fight over what Kaster said. The police show up at the football field and ask for Bobby Reyes. Reyes is arrested on the practice field; he is placed in handcuffs in the middle of practice and taken away.
Tami Taylor is speaking to Tyra Collette about her failing Algebra. Tyra tells Tami that she’s going to go away to California and get her GED later. Tyra tells Tami that she doesn’t want to be stuck in a small town and that she doesn’t want to be like her; Tyra then leaves. Tami is slightly frustrated with the little meeting that they had.
Kurt Kaster’s mother comes into Tami’s office. His mother needs to pick up his assignments to bring to the hospital and makes a few remarks to Tami about how the football player will not get in trouble and that she should know that because she’s the coach’s wife. Tami is confused by her remarks but Kaster’s mother abruptly thanks Tami and leaves.
Coach Taylor is speaking to Matt, Smash and Tim about what happened and he’s disappointed because of all the other things he has to deal with. Coach Taylor tells the three captains that they are going to have to look out for the other players when they are out.
Lyla Garrity is visiting Jason Street and she asks the nurse for extra time in the weight room for Jason. Jason makes a joke about Lyla visiting and tells her that they have a nickname for her because she’s an advocate for Jason. Jason tells Lyla that he’s horny and Lyla says that she’s never heard him talk like that. A nurse, Francine, walks in as Jason is putting his arms around her. Lyla gets off of Jason and walks out of the room.
Tim Riggins and his brother are outside under the hood fixing his truck. Lyla Garrity comes over to visit Tim and tells him that they need to stop the affair that they are having. Lyla tells Tim that Jason is changing and is acting different and better. Tim Riggins is disappointed but Lyla tells him that he knew it was going to end.
The nurse, Francine, tells Jason Street that it’s not medically safe for him to have sex. Jason tells the nurse Francine that she knows how to break a guy’s heart.
Tami is talking to Coach Taylor about the fight and she wants to know what is going to happen to Reyes. They begin to argue about the situation when Julie walks up.
Tyra Collette knocks on the door at Tim’s house. Tim Riggins answers the door and tells her she can walk in. Bart Oliver asked Tyra out and she tells Tim about it, but Tim isn’t jealous. Tim really doesn’t seem to care anymore what Tyra does. Tyra calls him a name and walks out. (the phone rings)
Jason calls Tim up and says that he needs him to come down to the Rehab Center to talk.
Buddy Garrity is driving with Coach Taylor to go see Reyes at the police station. Buddy tells Coach Taylor that one of Voodoo’s family members said that they met together. Coach Taylor says he doesn’t want to lie about meeting with Voodoo earlier then they were supposed to meet.
Coach Taylor and Buddy Garrity make it to the jail. Reyes tells him the story about being at the sandwich shop. Coach Taylor tells him that he had no right to cause physical harm to anyone no matter what he said about the football team. Kaster then lies and says that Kaster called him a “wetback” but it was Voodoo Tatom that called him that. Reyes tells Coach Taylor that he was trying to control his temper and then he looks Coach Taylor in the eye and tells him that he is telling the truth about what happened.
Tim shows up at the rehab clinic to visit Jason. Tim tells Jason that he hitched a ride because his truck isn’t running. Jason is upset and tells him that he has only visited him once in six weeks. Tim, Lyla, and Jason are out driving and Jason is happy to be away from the hospital and out on the “open road”.

Season 1 Episode 6 Quotes

Posted by Kaitlin with No Comments

Coach Taylor: I think sometimes that for anyone to do what I do, it is damn near impossible to not sell your soul just a little bit down the river.

Smash: Hey, who you taking to homecoming?
Bradley: Man you should take that, uh, rally girl, Drew.
Matt: Uh, no, I got–I got someone else in mind, so.
Bradley: Quit stalling, come on
Smash: Hey, I bet your granny can still cut an ill two-step.

Tim: Six…
Jason: Took you long enough to get here, man.
Tim: My truck ain’t running. We’re putting in this four-barrel carb. I hitched a ride, man. Sorry.
Jason: I’m guessing you know what this is about.
Tim: I do?
Jason: Yeah, of course you do. You wanna call yourself my best friend and you haven’t shown up but once since I’ve been in here. Six weeks, man. Six weeks. Let me go ahead and recap my life for you over the last couple of weeks, huh? My day starts out with me laying down on this bed, well pretty much the whole day takes place with me laying down in this bed on my sorry quadriplegic ass. Every day, people come in here poking and prodding me like I’m a piece of meat. Go ahead and stick a catheter in me in places you don’t want to know about. My big adventure of the day is going to the commode ‘cause I gotta go at the same time everyday so I can teach my body how to crap on cue. Impressive, huh? And then Lyla comes running in-(laughing)–I wanna know if she’s as chipper out there as she is in here. ‘Cause I tell you what –I love that girl. I do, I love her more then life itself but I tell you what if she tells me how great everything’s gonna be when I finally get out of here one more time, I’m gonna lose it. Point is this Timmy, while I’m in here dealing with all this, by myself, and my best friend is out there putting a four barrel carb in his damn truck. Is that what’s important right now? Answer me this Timmy, what happened to Texas forever? Huh? What happened to living large? What happened to that eternal bond that you used to love to throw around when I was still healthy and headed towards the NFL? Huh? I need you here Tim! I need you here. I expect, I expect you here. You are my best friend. Grace period’s over.
