Season 3 Episode 5 Quotes

Posted by Kaitlin with No Comments

Tim:It’s when all the scared rats start running away from the sinking market that the true entrepreneurs come in, Billy. True visionaries.
Billy: I’m a visionary.
Herc: psh, look at ya!

Matt: There’s this new freshmen this year and everyone think he’s the next Peyton Manning or something, so I got placed.
Shelby: Oh Matt, I’m sorry. You don’t deserve that.
Matt: I didn’t really deserve the job in the first place. The only reason I was starting is cuz our quarterback, Jason Street, he got paralyzed in the middle of a game.
Shelby: Oh my god.
Matt: Yeah, it was pretty horrible. You know, they needed me and I stepped up, and I worked my ass off and I did everything I could, you know? But I guess it just wasn’t really enough.
Shelby: It sounds like you did a great job…ever think about just taking a break?
Matt: You can’t quit the team.
Shelby: Why, what would they do? Shoot you?
Matt: Probably. We do live in Texas.

(At the bank)
Jason: I’m pretty sure that I don’t have to explain to you what’s at stake, Billy. And I’m also pretty sure I don’t have to explain to you that tellin’ somebody something’s liquid when it’s not quite liquid is a pretty dumbass thing to do!
Billy: Hey! Let’s not start with the name callin’. Otherwise, I’ll walk right outta here. It’s not fair. And I can’t punch you. You’re in a wheelchair.
Jason: Oh, I’ll swing back! Just ask your brother. You wanna take this outside, shorty?

(Coach Taylor walks into Matt freaking out in the locker room)
Coach Taylor: Hey! What the hell are you doing?
Matt: I did whatever you asked me to. I helped you win a state championship, I got you to 3-1 this season, I worked my ass off in practice. I do everything that you say! If it’s cause J.D. is better than me, tell me that!
Coach Taylor: My job is to field a team out there that wins games. Right now, that means J.D McCoy. Yes.
Matt: Okay. Then I quit.
Coach Taylor: You’re not quitting this team.
Matt: Yes, I am.
Coach Taylor: No, you’re not quitting this team and I’m not gonna let you quit. I know you. You quit this team you’re gonna hate yourself. You wanna be pissed? Fine, you go ahead, you be pissed. I don’t give a damn. But you are not quitting this team.
Matt: Fine. Fine, I’ll sit on your bench. I’ll come to practice and I’ll do whatever you tell me to do. But I’m gonna hate it. And you’re gonna hate it. Good talk, coach.

Sporting News’ Chris Littmann Interviews Taylor Kitsch

Posted by Kaitlin with No Comments

Like The White Shadow long ago, and Sports Night a decade ago, Friday Night Lights is one of those shows that takes sports as the spine of a series and makes for a really compelling watch.

Kitsch’s character, Tim Riggins (center) in this year’s premiere.

On Friday, I had a chance to chat with Lights star Taylor Kitsch, who plays Dillon Panther Tim Riggins. Read on to find out about his passion for hockey, his role on the show and its future.

Littmann: Thanks for taking a break to answer some questions. Before we get to the show, let’s talk about your personal favorite sport: hockey. This has to be a great time of the year for you with the NHL season under way again. Are you catching a lot of the early-season action? With no team in the area, what do you do to keep up?

Kitsch: Yeah, I think I’m the only one in Austin with the hockey package. If I do miss the games, because I get home at like 1, 2 in the morning, I’ll just go over on TSN and what not to watch the highlights.

CL: Any other hockey fans on the cast, or are you by yourself watching games on DirecTV?

TK: Nope, you’re looking at it. They catch games, but they don’t want to talk hockey like I know. I’m in a league here right now, which is great. It’s therapy for me. I’ve got a motorcycle and hockey; those are my two things that are therapy for me. I’ve missed like the last six games due to work, but I think I’m still the leading defensive scorer in the league, so that’s nice.

Season 3 Episode 4 Quotes

(Eric is contemplating about starting JD McCoy instead of Matt Saracen)
Tami: I love that about you.
Eric: What? That I can’t make a decision to save my life?
Tami: No. That you make the decision with such a conscience. What other coach would think like that? I think it’s because you’re a teacher first. You–you are a molder of men. And I find that admirable, and I find that very sexy.

Eric: I need a drink.
Tami: We got wine at the house.
Eric: I need a scotch flavored drink.
Tami: Let me call Jules.

Coach Taylor: There’s no doubt that J.D. McCoy, he wins when it comes to physical skills. I understand that. Hell, he’s got the best arm of any high school quartrback I’ve ever seen. And that includes Jason Street. And then you’ve got Matt. Hell, Matt’s got the experience. He’s got three seasons under his belt. The team knows how to play with Matt. I know what I’ve got with Matt Saracen.
Tami: That’s a hard decision, babe.
Coach Taylor: After everything that kid’s been through, I bench him half way through his senior year? It’ll kill him.
Tami: I know. And he’s like family.
Coach Taylor: I can’t make a decision based on that.

Coach Taylor (to Smash): Right here, right now, God has placed you to do what you do best. Go all the way.

Smash (his final words): Where you at, baby? Where you at?

Season 3 Episode 3 Quotes

Tim: You are coming over tomorrow night, correct?
Lyla: Mindy and Angela are gonna be there.
Tim: (confused) OK, no Mindy, what.. No.
Lyla: I don’t know if you notice or not, but Mindy and Angela hate me.
Tim: What? They don’t hate you. They don’t even know you. If they did, they’d love you. And you know what? Somebody wants his girlfriend to be there. Okay? And you know what? If they even look at you wrong, and you don’t see it, and I do? I’m gonna blindsight them with the worst block they’ll have ever seen. So what I want from you right now is for you to say, “Yes, Tim, I can’t wait to see you and hang out with you tomorrow night”.

Matt: I’m just trying to worry about beating Arnett Mead on Friday. That’s all I wanna be thinking about, okay? And, and that’s hard. I don’t know if you’re aware, but we never beat Arnett Mead. I mean, not even Jason Street ever beat Arnett Mead ever, okay? So, I’m trying to worry about that, meanime I got some freshman named Joe Doyle breathing down my neck and it’s – look, if I hear anyone talk about this 70 yard pass he threw like ever again I’m gonna lose it because I don’t even care. It was in practice, it wasn’t defenders, it was no- I can throw a ball 70 yards if noone’s like, running at me. It’s harder to do – Sorry, you don’t care about this.
Julie: No, I do care.
Matt: No, you shouldn’t. I’m just, I’m just ranting. I apologize.
Julie: You’re really adorable when you rant.

Coach Taylor: (trying to reassure a worried Matt who’s been watching J.D. practice) You listen to me. That is not my quarterback, you are my quarterback. You understand that? I want you concentrating on Friday night. You go out there and you play with what we’ve taught you and what you know everything is gonna go just fine.
Matt: Yes, sir.

Season 3 Episode 3 Recap

Posted by Kaitlin with No Comments

The Collette girls and the Riggins boys are enjoying some dancing, steaks and beer on a wild night out. On the way home, Billy stops at some guy’s house for a “business meeting,” which seems shady.

He claims he’s getting some money together to take care of debts. The next day, Coach assures Matt that hotshot QB J.D. won’t be replacing him. Of course, Joe McCoy corners Eric to urge otherwise.

Tami and Eric are throwing a party for the football fans, but even that hospitality hasn’t stopped the Boosters from pestering the coach about his choice of quarterback.

Tami is tired of having these parties at the Taylor house, but Eric easily woos her into taking on the task. At Smash’s place, he learns that his mom is taking on a second job to pay for his college education.

While Tami argues with the butcher over ribs, she runs into J.D.’s mother, Katie. She wants to meet with Tami about donating money to academics, and also wants to throw a few fundraisers to raise extra cash.

She definitely knows the way to Tami’s heart.

Tim asks Lyla to come over the next night, but she’s worried that Mindy and Angela hate her. He thinks she’s paranoid, and promises to stand up for her if anyone treats her poorly.

Tami tells Eric that Katie offered to throw the BBQ for the football fans at her place. Tami’s thrilled, but the coach is upset over the change, saying he doesn’t want to be scrutinized in someone else’s house.

Everyone is worried about J.D. McCoy. Mac wants Coach to give him some time as QB, which Eric refuses to do, and Landry is convinced that the new kid is too “hip” for Matt to compete with.

Matt opens up to Julie about the game coming up on Friday. Not only are they facing off with a school they’ve never beaten, but he’s stressed about J.D.

The head of Alamo Freeze wants to know if Smash will consider being regional manager. He’d make $10,000 a year.

Lyla heads to the Riggins house and puts her foot in her mouth when Mindy reveals that she stole her wedding vows from Finding Nemo.

After Billy’s friend shows up unexpectedly, Billy tells Tim that he planned to steal some copper wire from an old power plant and sell it for cash.

Instead of talking him out of it, Tim suggests he take a different escape route to avoid the cops. It’s not long before the Collette girls leave, offended that anyone would fail to take Finding Nemo seriously.

Eric is grumpy while pulling up to the massive McCoy house, which he thinks looks like a sanitarium. They even have a valet service out front!

Buddy drives Lyla to the shindig while Tim helps his brother steal the wire, which is an adventure that has its fair share of problems. The boys run into guard dogs, but the dogs flee without causing any damage.

Matt and Julie stumble upon the shrine dedicated to J.D. while at the party, and the teen finally gets his first lines when he catches them mocking his trophies.

He makes a joke that his parents bronzed his first diaper, then wanders off and leaves things awkward. Meanwhile, Billy convinces Tim to help him get the last few spools of wire.

Buddy, Joe and Wade try to convince Eric to put J.D. in the game. Eric doesn’t like being pressured, and he also feels more comfortable with Matt since he’s known him for years.

After the Taylors get home, Eric and Tami share some sweet moments together, and he says he misses the coach’s wife, and she says that she can’t wait to meet the principal’s husband.

Friday night is here and the big game has begun.

Not only do the Panthers lose, but they lose after Matt fumbles the ball while trying to make a touchdown. Factor in the massive amount of hits he took during the game, and it looks like Saracen failed to impress.

Julie meets with him afterwards, and comforts him a little bit by agreeing to discuss anything but football.

Smash tells his mom that he’s turning down the Texas A&M visit to take the job at Alamo Freeze. Momma tells him he’s made the worst decision ever and she plans to help him go to college whether he likes it or not.

Smash doesn’t like the idea of taking her charity, but she assures him he can worry about supporting her and buying her a house later.

Meanwhile, Tim apologizes to Lyla about abandoning her at the BBQ. She begs him not to prove her wrong about her constant claims that he’s a good guy.

Tami and Eric come home to find that some lame fans have placed For Sale signs in their front yard. Tami rests her head on Eric’s shoulder after they go inside, becoming the coach’s wife once again.

Season 3 Episode 2 Quotes

(Tim trying on a jacket)
Lyla: Ok, take it off, take it off, come on.
Tim: Lyla, I know how to dress myself.
Lyla: No, you only know how to put on a pledge shirt one button per button.
Tim: You know what would be great? We just leave, cause I don’t wanna go to this dinner in the first place.
Lyla: Yeah well, if you only did what you wanted to do, your life would be all about football, beer and sex, wouldn’t it?
Tim: And whats the problem with that?

Grandma Saracen: I saw that game tonight. You played great, you just played great.
Matt: Thanks.
Grandma Saracen: You’ve always loved football, Matty. I remember when you were two years old, you were trying to throw a football and it was bigger than you were. And you were such a sweet baby, such a sweet, sweet baby. But here you are all grown up taking care of everything. I don’t know what I’d do without you. I don’t know. Matthew? I love you.
Matt: I know. I, I love you, too, grandma. (she starts crying) Grandma, hey.
Grandma Saracen: You are such a good boy.
Matt: That’s because I was raised by you.
