Season 4 Episode 1 East of Dillon Recap

We’ll be publishing our podcast tomorrow with our review but for those that didn’t get to watch here is a play by play of the show tonight.

It’s August.
Coach tries on a Red East Dillons hat.
Matt delivers pizza.
Landry gets his mail and gets a letter he is going to East Dillon.
Joe McCoy and Wade Aikman are on a golf cart on the Panthers field. Buddy is running after them, obviously frustrated.
Coach walks on his dirt field and then tries to get in his field house but it’s locked. He finally gets in with the help of a worker and it’s a disaster. He jumps when a raccoon makes a noise in one of the lockers.
Vince is running from the cops. He gets caught and arrested.
At Lions practice guys are weighing in, some giving him a hard time about not taking off their jewelry. Landry is in line. All of them want to be quarterback.
They practice on the field, most of them barely able to breathe.
Later Coach is lining the field and the cops offer Vince to the team as part of the Cops and (for?) Jocks program.
Tami walks into a meeting with Joe, Wade and other coaches. They tell her they want her to do the coin toss for the game.
Riggins is in the college. He stays in the English class for about 3 seconds and then leaves. We see him driving home, throwing out all his textbooks through the window. He grins when he’s done.
At Lions practices the guys are giving another coach a hard time. they are in a huddle and one of the guys busts the coach’s nose with a ball. He quits and walks off the field.
Matt talks to an art teacher at Dillon Tech who tells him he doesn’t do art. His stuff is just drawings that don’t say anything. Matt tells her it must be something since he got into the Art Institute at Chicago.
Mindy, Billy and Tim are at dinner at the house. Mindy asks what Tim is going to do and Tim says his plan is Riggins Riggs. Mindy asks to see Billy alone and you see Mindy is very pregnant.
Kyle and Tami go to a welcoming meeting. Kyle tries to recruit the coaches but they say no. Parents get out of control and blame Tami. They ask why her daughter is going to West Dillon if East is so nice. Joe seems to be enjoying the fighting.
Coach runs into a former Pop Warner coach while trying to get something repaired. He convinces a now-desperate coach to give him a job.

Matt and Julia are delivering pizza together. Julie wants to go to a party but Matt doesn’t. He says it will just be a Panthers party. He delivers the pizza to JD’s house. JD gives him a hard time asking if Julie always delivers pizza and says he should have gone to art school.
Lions practice. The pop warner coach is there and seems to be overzealous. Vince gets one good play in.
At the party, Landry and Devin talk. Devin says her mother says she would die before Devin went to East Dillon. JD says hello to Julie who then smarts off about her dad. He introduces Luke. JD has had too much to drink and picks Julie up to throw her in the pool. Matt walks into the party and gets her down and gets in a fight with JD.
Tim and Billy are painting the nursery. Tim asks why they aren’t painting the room blue or pink. He says it’s a puke color. Billy gets mad and they fight. Billy says he worked for 8 years getting him into college and he’s throwing it away. Tim says only Lyla and Billy wanted him to go, not him. Billy tells him he has a family now and there’s no room for him there. Tim says he was just trying to come home and leaves.
At school, Tami pulls Devin out of class, presumably to tell her she’s going to East Dillon. Julie walks them walk out.
Landry practices throwing the ball at Matt’s house. Grandma comes out and tells him to “stop throwing the ball, you look like a girl” Matt and Landry talk about JD and Landry says he should take the high road and says “Get behind me, Satan.”
Tim is at a bar nursing his wound. The bartender asks if it was a dog and Tim says his brother.
At practice, a guy gives Landry a hard time while Coach is talking. Landry asks if he needs a toy to pay attention. The guy knocks Landry down and they fight.
In the locker room, Coach yells at the players, calling them cowards. He tells them not to fight on his field, not in his colors. He tells Landry and the boy to make it right. Landry gets up and apologizes. The other guy says “screw you”. Coach kicks him out and tells anyone else who doesn’t want to be there to leave. After several leave, Coach asks Vince if he wants to go and he says he wants to play.
Riggins wakes up in bed with the bartender. He gets out of bed, wearing only boxer briefs. He hears someone singing the National Anthem. He goes out to the kitchen, dressing himself and Becky is recording herself singing. She recognizes him and asks if he’s the Tim Riggins. He says yes and she says I wonder if my mom knows she slept with you. She asks if she’s alive and he says yes. She says “way to go 33, but I need a ride to school.” Cut to Tim working on his truck. Becky asks what it’s like being Tim Riggins now. Tim says he’s still Tim Riggins.
Coach Taylor and the PW coach are in the office. The PW coach is repeating everything Eric says and Eric asks him to filter his thoughts a little better and to quit repeating him, it’s freaking me out. A coach from the Panthers walks in and says he’s going to help.
It’s the morning of game day at Tami walks in to get more coffee. She tells Eric about the coin toss and laments that she can’t go to the game with him.
In the locker room, all the guys are suited up and very nervous. One is singing a hymn to himself. Coach walks in a gives them a pep talk. He says there’s a joy to this game, a passion and if they give 100% others will look at them differently tomorrow. He says Clear Eyes, Full Hearts and no one responds until Landry finally pipes up with a weak Can’t Lose. They all repeat it and then storm the field.
Becky sings the National Anthem.
At the Panthers, Wade tells Tami to pick defense. She wins the coin toss and picks offense. Joe stares her down from the stands.
The Lions game against South King is a mess. They are getting confused on plays, fumbling the ball, Vince is getting sacked and no one is blocking for him. The score is 45-0 at half time. In the locker room, it’s like the end of a battle. Everyone is a mess. Coach is going from guy to guy asking how they are. He gets to Landry and sticks his hand in his mouth to see how a tooth is. Landry tells him he’s ok. Coach walks out and forfeits the game. As he walks off the field, Tami watches from the stands.
