“WNBT and WCBS-TV, local video outlets for the National Broadcasting Company and the Columbia Broadcasting System, respectively, will televise the 23rd annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade on Thursday, beginning at 10:30 a.m.…WNBT, which will be represented by Milton Berle as grand marshall, and a 13-foot replica of Howdy Doody, will cover the pageant for one hour and 45 minutes… WCBS-TV and the Columbia network will scan the parade for a half-hour period as it goes down Broadway. Two CBS television stars, Paul Winchell and Jerry Mahoney, will ride on one of the 16 floats.”
The arrangement remains largely intact 60 years later. As the official sponsors, NBC gets pride of place with Today show hosts Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira hosting. NBC stars like Heroes‘ Masi Oka and Ali Larter and Connie Britton from Friday Night Lights will be making appearances. Forty-four million people watched the network’s broadcast last year, according to the Orlando Sentinel’s Hal Boedeker.

Currently recording with members of the Black Angels, Hunt is on track to break out of a bit role on “Friday Night Lights” — if she’s willing to leave the Austin, Texas, music scene behind.
While on what was intended as a temporary break from the University of Texas at Austin, Stephanie Hunt auditioned for football-centered small-town drama “Friday Night Lights.” At the time, this Longhorn was a bit of a Hollywood long shot.
After completing one year of college as a journalism major, Hunt asked for a semester off, suddenly having the urge to pursue acting. The death of a close friend, Hunt said, prompted the academic leave and “inspired a whole bunch of self-reflection.”
Within one week of pulling out of UT, and with no acting resume to speak of, a connected acquaintance tipped Hunt off to the opening on “Friday Night Lights,” which shoots in Austin.
The role came with requirements. The character needed to know how to play the bass guitar, an instrument Hunt, a trained violinist, had only fiddled with for a couple of months. Auditioners would also have to perform a rock song. Hunt opted to risk writing her own tune — a song she composed only minutes before facing casting directors.
“I couldn’t think of a rock song that I knew that I could sing that would sound good in my voice, so I just went off the idea of something raspy sounding,” she said. “Usually I sing jazz or I sing kind of sweet, so I wanted to show a little bit more edge. It was called ‘Sweet Scratching Sound.’ It’s kind of cheesy now, but it worked, you know.”

Such sad news
I hope they can work out a filming schedule!
It looks like Tim Riggins will be warming the bench for at least a portion of Friday Night Lights’ fifth season.
Executive producer Jason Katims confirms that Taylor Kitsch will be off filming his lead role in John Carter of Mars, Disney’s big-screen adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ book series, during production of FNL’s probable final season. As a result, he says Kitsch “will miss part” of the season. “[But] we are communicating with the [John Carter] production to work out the schedule so that Taylor can be in as much of season 5 as possible.”

Real talk, people: With this dizzyingly great fourth episode of the season, it’s time to step up and call Friday Night Lights what it is: the Best Show (Almost) on (Network) TV. Mad Men and Breaking Bad are gone ‘till 2010, Lost is still months away. And don’t even get us started on Glee. Nothing currently on the air comes close to matching our friends in Dillon, Texas — we’re talking emotional honesty, character depth, acting prowess, and Tim Riggins in a dress store. Wait, what?
