I wanted to leave some fun facts about the interview on here that were discussed before we hit “record”…

    1. In episode 4.09 we saw Wire alum Larry Gilliard Jr. (Elden) who played D’Angelo Barksdale. I mentioned how excited Wire/FNL fans were for the reunion and Michael B. told us that he hooked Larry up with the guest spot on FNL.

    2. We had so many technical difficulties setting this interview up (everything from email, to bad phone connections) that Michael B. joked that he used to be on Geek Squad. Amy and I both fell for it, but he said “wouldn’t that be one cool job??”

    3. Michael B. admitted that he’s holding out for LeBron James to enter the NBA Dunk Contest before he attends.

It is so cool to get some of the backstory on Vince and to have it, again, confirmed that a lot of backstory is lost in editing. As a fan, I REALLY enjoy this kind of insight from the different FNL’s cast members and I hope we get more of that from future interviews. It was awesome!!!

Turning to your episode review … I feel the need to point out the obvious. This is a short, 13 episode season with the introduction of at least 5 new major characters. I think the writers are doing the best they can to tell the story of ALL these Dillon characters while trying to pay homage to each and every one (the new ones, the ones who are leaving, and the core characters who are a constant). They could have done a much better job had they had 9 or 10 more eps, but that’s not what they have. AND we still have football.

No doubt that we will feel we’ve been put through an emotional ‘blender’ on some of these intense, jam-packed episodes.

Not about this podcast, but another related comment.

As a fan, I REALLY appreciate the effort from you two on putting together these cast interviews. It takes a lot of planning and execution to make these interviews happen. They have all been excellent, and I have learned so much about the show and the each cast member … and I find the insights to be absolutely fascinating because they’re true and they’re for real. Thank you, thank you!! And please keep it up.

I just have to say I’m firmly on Team MBJ after that interview. Great, great guy. And as I said in the podcast, I also enjoy these insights into the characters. Now I feel a need to go back and watch the season again to really understand where Vince was coming from.

Dolphin, thanks so much for your encouragement, it makes it all worth it to share it with other fans that appreciate it!

Dolphin, I love when you comment here because it makes our efforts seem worthwhile.

Amy and I started doing this because we LOVE FNL, and we don’t feel that the actors (or anyone for that matter) involved with FNL get enough press, and we all want to know everything we can about this incredible show. Thus we started the podcast, and we’ve been lucky enough to get superb people on here so far.

Also, I agree with your comment about the 13 episode seasons…if we had longer the storylines wouldn’t seem rushed. When we do these reviews it’s minutes after we’ve watched the episode and sometimes we make some rash comments. Ha, oh well, it happens. Thanks for listening!

    Best,
    Kaitlin

PS Michael B. Jordan is a fantastic person. I cannot wait to see him explode onto the acting scene…he’s a big big talent, and charming as well.

I’ve been really enjoying the cast podcasts, I love all the additional glimpses into a show I love very much. I don’t get to comment as much as I’d like but thank you both for everything you do with this site.

As for the episode, although it was very dark, I loved it. And they gave me pretty much everything about Coach Taylor I love too, including sleepy Eric twice!

The only thing I would have loved to have seen was Mama Smash involved in the Becky storyline somehow! I’ll settle for just having new episodes though.

If there is ANY chance for a FNLs Season 6 and we fans need to do another network push (based on Brad Leland’s comments) … PLEASE count me in and tell me what to do.

I can’t believe you guys didn’t give this episode a higher rating! I think it was a definate 9. The acting was excellent (Becky blew me away this week) and I thought all the story lines were great. I’m glad FNL didn’t shy away from the abortion storyline for fear of alienating viewers. I just think they hit the nail on the head with how Becky would handle it. Also, Vince in the hospital with his Mom was just so good. After the show was over, I felt really overwhelmed with lots of emotions which to me, means good TV.

I did think they had some humorous parts thrown in. How about Coach not being able to remember where he left his car and Tami making him walk to it when they found it?! Coach’s looks were priceless at the dinner table with Julie and the new guy (really not a fan of Julie this year). Of course, the whole exchange between Tim and Billy in the kitchen was great. It wasn’t until the last 5 minutes of the show that I finally realized that there was no Landry!

Really looking forward to your chat with Derek Phillips this week!

    Monica-
I re-watched the episode and think that my rating might’ve been a little harsh, but I’m still reeling from the loss of my beloved Matt Saracen. Michael B. Jordan brought the house down for sure, but Becky still annoys me. Madison Burge on the other hand, is a delight!

I’m definitely glad that FNL tackled the teen pregnancy storyline on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, I just wish it had been with a character I was more involved with.

Monica, good call on the Tami/Coach scene in the parking lot. I meant to mention that!

Kaitlin, I can understand how you are reeling from Matt’s departure. I’m sure that’s how I will feel when my beloved Riggins isn’t in many episodes next season!
