MomLogic.com Praises Friday Night Lights

TEACH ME, TAMI
Meredith Hoffa: Earlier this month, when NBC announced its post-Olympics schedule, fans of Friday Night Lights got word that the show’s fourth season will begin airing April 30th. (Those with DirecTV are already getting a sneak peek.) Initially this news caused me to pout and stomp. April is SPRING, for cripes sake, and light years away. But then I reminded myself that I’m deeply in love with Friday Night Lights and as such, I will do anything it says, and if that means waiting patiently, adoringly, until April, then so be it. Besides, I’ve since discovered that simply having a concrete start date on the horizon is actually good enough, as it fills me with a dizzying, very pleasant level of anticipation.
FNL is so many things to me: It is an opportunity to harbor possibly inappropriate crushes (They’re not really teenagers, right? Just actors *playing* teenagers. Right?). It’s also an opportunity — much to my husband’s excitement — for me to get a little interested in football, a sport which I’ve previously dismissed as a silly, lame snoozefest of a game featuring man-children — sometimes fattish ones — alternately scurrying around in a tag-like fashion and falling on top of each other, then fighting over a tiny ball while lying on the ground (I still kind of think this). Additionally, FNL provides me with an opportunity to exercise my creativity; I know I’m not the only one who has choreographed a modern dance routine to the opening credits’ hauntingly beautiful theme music.
Most of all, though, now that I have a baby, FNL is an opportunity for me to learn how to be a parent.

Gaius Charles in Sundance Favorite “Toe to Toe”
Posted by Kaitlin with No Comments
The film Toe to Toe which was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival will come out in limited release February 26, 2010.
Emily Abt’s emotionally powerful feature film, Toe to Toe, tells the story of a love/hate relationship between lacrosse mates Tosha and Jesse, two senior girls at a competitive Washington, D.C., prep school. Tosha is a fiercely determined African American scholarship student from Anacostia, one of Washington’s poorest areas, while Jesse is a privileged, but troubled, white girl from Bethesda, who deals with promiscuous tendencies that pull her toward self-destruction. The two forge a close and genuine friendship on the field, but that bond is tested when the obstacles presented by societal circumstances threaten to tear them apart.Abt draws penetrating performances from bright, young talents Louisa Krause (Jesse) and Sonequa Martin (Tosha). Together they craft a complex story rich with nuance and authenticity, avoiding predictability and challenging tired racial narratives. Inspired by the disturbing fact that interracial friendships end at age 14 for 87 percent of American teenagers, Toe to Toe is a powerful reminder of the transforming power of honesty and the way that those who test us often make us better.

L.A. Times Calls FNL the “best dramatic series in the history of television”
Posted by Kaitlin with No Comments
It is unfortunate that when it comes to television programs, the shows that get the most attention are those that call the most attention to themselves — the ones that are quirky, odd and flamboyant. With none of those qualities, “Friday Night Lights,” which is now running its fourth season on Direct TV and will be returning to NBC prime time on April 30, has sort of flown under the radar.
Though it has received critical plaudits, won a Peabody Award, a Television Critics Assn. awards and an Emmy, it has never received an Emmy nomination for outstanding dramatic series and none of its cast members has been nominated. Also, its ratings have always been problematic and it has twice been on the brink of cancellation. (Hence the deal between Direct TV and NBC to share costs.)
Still, at a time when NBC is being vilified, here is one thing it has done right. Despite paltry ratings, it has continued to support what may be the best dramatic series in the history of television. That’s right: history.

Women And Hollywood on FNL and Roe v. Wade Anniversary
Posted by Kaitlin with No Comments
**ATTENTION: This has been posted as an interesting article, not as an invitation to spark debate over Roe v. Wade. Please keep comments relevant to FNL and it’s storylines. Also, I did notify the author of the article that Michael B. Jordan is not the actor who plays Luke.
Today is the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. While I don’t know if this is coincidental, two shows this week — Friday Night Lights and Private Practice — both had major storylines that tackled abortion worthy of a look.
The stories were about two very different young girls both about 15 and in high school:
One white, Friday Night Lights; one black, Private Practice
One rich, Private Practice; one poor, Friday Night Lights
The outcome (spoiler): one abortion, Friday Night Lights
I’ve said many, many times how big a fan I am of Friday Night Lights. It is one of the best shows on television, hands down. If you don’t watch the show because you think it is about football I say you are an idiot. This is the second season that the show has aired on Direct TV first and will run on NBC in the spring. I beg you to watch it.

Adrianne Palicki Gets Some Support at Her Big Movie Premiere From Former Co-Star Scott Porter
Posted by Amy with No Comments
Adrianne Palicki and Scott Porter may not star on Friday Night Lights together anymore, but that hasn’t prevented the old pals from staying in touch.
In fact, Scott, 30, is so close with his former co-star that he was even on hand to support his long-time friend during her big screen Hollywood debut. A radiant Adrianne, 26,feted the premiere of her action flick, Legion , alongside co-stars Paul Bettany and Dennis Quaid at LA’s ArcLight Cinema Jan 21.
It probably helps that Scott and Adrianne never had an onscreen romance while filming NBC’s critically acclaimed high school football drama. It’s so much easier to stay friends with a co-worker when there were no – ahem – benefits involved.

Minka has not been wearing a ring.”So, how did this story break in the first place? It was first reported by the New York on Sunday, when one its reporters noticed a notation for a “Jeter” wedding at the Oheka Castle.
According to the Daily News, this is a case of mistaken identity.Apparently, Jeter’s father, Charles, revealed that he was going to see one of his children walk down the aisle, but he wasn’t talking about Derek. Rather, he was talking about his daughter, Sharlee, who’s engaged to rapper Skyzoo.
