EW’s Ausiello Interviews Britton and Chandler About End of FNL

Image Credit: Justin Stephens/NBCNine words I hoped I’d never have to say: Eric and Tami Taylor have gone their separate ways. I’m not talking about the ironclad couple at the heart of Friday Night Lights but rather their exceptional portrayers, Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton. Although the show’s fifth and final season has yet to air (it premieres on DirecTV this fall), the cast and crew wrapped weeks ago in Austin, at which point Britton moved back to Los Angeles, leaving Chandler behind in Texas with his wife and their two daughters. Here, in their first interview together since production ended, the actors look back on their five-year work marriage, reveal the secret behind that groundbreaking onscreen relationship, and argue over whom they’re rooting for most come Emmy night.
It’s been two weeks since FNL wrapped. Are you guys suffering separation anxiety?
KYLE CHANDLER: I’m happy as can be.
CONNIE BRITTON: [Laughs] You are not.
CHANDLER: You mean from Connie, right?

Nice interview…finally. Seems now that FNL is wrapping it’s finally getting noticed. Season 5 can’t start soon enough, though I’m so not wanting it to end forever.
This show reminds me so much of Arrested Development in that, by the time the mainstream ‘discovered it,’ the show was also gone (and was also finally receiving awards and industry recognition).
The critics and its die hard fans also loved that show … and FOX kept it on longer than ratings alone would allow, but viewers never found it … until Hulu and syndication.
To this very day in August of 2010, people are still only now ‘discovering’ this phenom of a show and are catching up on Seasons 1 – 3 for the very first time. I will never understand why NBC didn’t originally put the show on Friday nights, leave it there in one time slot and allow it to grow a larger fan base. I am; however, grateful they stuck with the show for 5 seasons … long enough to allow it go into a syndication deal (and we get DVD boxed sets!).
Now, how do we get the gag reel? Seriously!!!! I’d pay to see it.
