More than 85 ocean-related films have been chosen from an unprecedented number of entries for this year’s BLUE Ocean Film Festival, presented by Monterey Bay Aquarium from Aug. 24 to 29 in Monterey.
The festival will bring together films, filmmakers and leaders in ocean research and conservation. For a complete list of films and registration information, visit: www.blueoceanfilmfestival.org
During the festival, ocean-based events will take place in and around Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, including a swim Aug. 24 across the bay between Santa Cruz and Monterey by marathon swimmer Bruckner Chase. The film industry conference includes underwater and topside film and video instruction sessions within the sanctuary.
The films themselves cover 19 categories; three will premiere at BLUE.
“SOLA” is a documentary of the dramatic environmental impacts of the Southern Louisiana coastal ecosystem.
“Beneath the Blue” stars Paul Wesley, Caitlin Wachs and David Keith in a story about dolphin scientists, sonar and espionage.
“Beautiful Wave,” a surfing drama set in Santa Cruz, stars Patricia Richardson, Aimee Teegarden, Helen Slater and Lance Henriksen.
