Filming is underway around Central Texas for the next season of “Friday Night Lights.”
Some members of the cast live in the area and put together a celebrity golf event each year for the benefit of people with severe spinal cord injuries.
Beyond the Lights will be held May 13-15 at Wolfdancer Golf Club at Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa.
The third-annual tournament will again benefit two foundations, the Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis and Gridiron Heroes Spinal Cord Injury Foundation, which provide support, resources and research to find a cure for spinal cord injuries.
Tournament hosts include actors Kyle Chandler and Brad Leland, stars of the critically acclaimed NBC television show “Friday Night Lights.”
“This started as a small event,” Chandler said. “The idea was just to have good people come out, have a good time and to get money for these charities, and it slowly evolved to when folks see the list of people that are coming out, it’s garnered attention and we’re making an impact and that’s what feels good.”
Celebrity golfers scheduled to attend include Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Tony Romo and Wide Receiver Roy Williams along with “Friday Night Lights” TV and movie cast-mates
“We’ve found that we can throw a giant fun party, which this year has even expanded into three days, but that’s not the point; it never was. And the fact that maybe some of these kids will not go into wheelchairs, maybe some of these kids will stand up out of wheelchairs is what makes us all feel great about it,” Leland said.
Others participating include current and former professional football and baseball players, coaches and college coaches and celebrities.
