The A.V. Club Talks Treme and Friday Night Lights with Kim Dickens (Shelby)

The actor: Kim Dickens’ career has clearly been blessed. She’s had the opportunity to work on some of the best TV shows in recent history, with a resume that includes Friday Night Lights, Lost, and a tremendous stint on Deadwood. Her latest finds her working with Wire mastermind David Simon onTreme, HBO’s new drama, set in post-Katrina New Orleans. Her character is much like her others: strong-willed, casually compelling, and distinctly Southern.
Friday Night Lights (2008-2009)—“Shelby Saracen”
KD: Oh man, I love that show. I was happy to be a part of that. [Writer-producer] Jason Katims and I had a phone conversation, and they offered [the part] to me. I hadn’t watched the show, but I had been a big fan of the movie. I love football movies. So I watched the show and immediately wanted to get on board with it. It was a really fun experience, too. The way they shoot down there is remarkable. Down in Austin, that is.

Kim Dickens In Cast of HBO’s “Treme”

Kim Dickens (Matt Saracen’s mom Shelby on FNL) has joined the cast of HBO’s new acclaimed drama “Treme”. Treme takes place in New Orleans 3 months post Hurricane Katrina. The show (from the creators of The Wire) displays the socio-economic aftermath of Katrina in the NOLA area and has a focus on small business owners, educators and musicians. Kim is portraying Janette Desautel, a struggling restaurant owner.
