EW: Emmy Video: ‘FNL’ stars Chandler and Britton on ’satisfying’ fifth season and a possible sixth!
Posted by Amy with 1 Comment
I rarely let my emotions get the best of me, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t get a little verklempt by the sight of Friday Night Lights‘ long overdue Emmy contenders Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton walking the red carpet yesterday as full-fledged nominees. So they didn’t win. Big deal. The positive buzz surrounding FNL‘s fifth and final season all but ensures they’ll be in the running again next year. But back to this year’s event, watch what went down on the red carpet with Britton and Chandler before the ceremony (hint: lots of silliness, an impromptu purse search, and talk of a possible—make that impossible—sixth season).

Hollywood Reporter Talks to Kyle Chandler About FNL and the Emmys
Posted by Kaitlin with 1 Comment
The Hollywood Reporter: You earned your first Emmy nom for a guest spot on ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy.” How did you find out about your first lead actor nomination?
Kyle Chandler: The night before I had gotten no sleep. My dogs had chewed their way through our fence and escaped. I stayed up until 2 a.m. looking for them before I finally got to sleep. Next thing I knew, my wife is waking me up, and I yelled: “I’m trying to sleep! For God’s sake, leave me alone.” And then she told me I was nominated again, and I said: “I don’t care! I want to sleep, damn it!”
THR: Critics have applauded your ability to channel the everyman in Coach Eric Taylor. What inspired you in developing this role?
Chandler: To be honest, I usually don’t know what the hell I’m doing; I’m just good at hiding it. But, a football coach I met with gave me one piece of advice: Love the kids. He told me that you can push them to the limit as long as you love them. It reminded me of my high school football coach. My father passed away when I was 14, and I remember my coach saying, “Kyle, if there’s anything I can do for you, let me know.” And I completely blew him off. It wasn’t until later in life that I apologized to him, because I realized what he was trying to do. That gave me my inspiration for Coach.

EW’s Ausiello Interviews Britton and Chandler About End of FNL
Posted by Kaitlin with 2 Comments
Image Credit: Justin Stephens/NBCNine words I hoped I’d never have to say: Eric and Tami Taylor have gone their separate ways. I’m not talking about the ironclad couple at the heart of Friday Night Lights but rather their exceptional portrayers, Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton. Although the show’s fifth and final season has yet to air (it premieres on DirecTV this fall), the cast and crew wrapped weeks ago in Austin, at which point Britton moved back to Los Angeles, leaving Chandler behind in Texas with his wife and their two daughters. Here, in their first interview together since production ended, the actors look back on their five-year work marriage, reveal the secret behind that groundbreaking onscreen relationship, and argue over whom they’re rooting for most come Emmy night.
It’s been two weeks since FNL wrapped. Are you guys suffering separation anxiety?
KYLE CHANDLER: I’m happy as can be.
CONNIE BRITTON: [Laughs] You are not.
CHANDLER: You mean from Connie, right?

Philadelphia Inquirer Reports on Season 5 FNL Finale
Posted by Kaitlin with No Comments
WARNING: This article includes spoilers about the season 5 finale of FNL. Read ahead only if you don’t mind! Also, make sure to check out the photo album contained at the bottom of the article in the link!
How did Philadelphia get to host filming of Friday Night Lights, the critically praised, Texas-shot, DirecTV/NBC series about a high school football coach?
Connections.
Producer Nan Bernstein said writers wanted to use an “industrial Pennsylvania city and thought Pittsburgh, but we had an aggressive shooting schedule.”
Bernstein simply reached into her playbook. She coproduced the CBS series Hack, which was shot here from 2002 to 2004. Tuesday’s work at Temple University and Frankford High was a trip home as she greeted some of her old crew.
The exteriors were part of FNL’s series finale, to be shown next year. Tami Taylor (played by Connie Britton) job-interviews at a Philly college (”Braemore College – whose prop signs read “per angusta ad augusta,” or “through hardship to triumph”).

EW’s Ausiello Predicts Actor in a Drama Emmy Race
Posted by Kaitlin with 7 Comments
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR IN A DRAMA
Jon Hamm (Mad Men)
Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights)
Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad)
Hugh Laurie (House M.D.)
Michael C. Hall (Dexter)
Matthew Fox (Lost)
The Frontrunner: Cranston and Chandler (tie). Cranston could well earn his third consecutive trophy, but the Academy has three years of snubs to atone for where Chandler is concerned.
The Dark Horse: Laurie. If he submits last season’s two-hour asylum-set opener — and he’d be a dummy not to — the winless thesp could be tough to beat.
Most Egregious Snub: Timothy Olyphant (Justified). Perhaps voters thought… Maybe they didn’t consider… I guess it’s possible they failed to… Nope, I got nothin’.
Other Notable Omissions: Peter Krause (Parenthood), Andy Whitfield (Spartacus: Blood and Sand), and Kiefer Sutherland (24).

Katims, Britton & Chandler Comment on Emmy Love
Posted by Kaitlin with No Comments
“I’m so grateful. It really feels like a gift. We’re about to wrap the show after 5 seasons, so this is especially wonderful and so unexpected. And I’m thrilled for my TV husband, Kyle too… It really feels like an acknowledgment of the show.”
– Connie Britton, Emmy Nominee, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series – “Friday Night Lights”“I am thrilled for Connie and Kyle. I will admit I had to read the email several times before I believed it. Kyle and Connie have both created once in a lifetime nuanced, complex and compelling characters — it is no small thrill for myself that after four years not one but both have been recognized. I am also thrilled that Rolin Jones has been recognized for his beautiful script “The Son”, an uniquely powerful episode of television. And, to Linda Lowy and our incredible casting agents who have been recognized yet again for all they bring to the show.”
– Jason Katims, Executive Producer“DIRECTV is thrilled to congratulate the ‘Friday Night Lights’ team and Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler on their recent Emmy nominations, recognition they so richly deserve. We’ve long admired the series and their outstanding work and are proud to share this honor with them.”
