The Oklahoma Film & Music Office and Sweethearts LLC have announced that principal photography on the family film “Cowgirls N’ Angels” began over the weekend.
Written by Timothy Armstrong and Stephan Blinn and directed by Timothy Armstrong, the coming-of-age feature will shoot in the Oklahoma communities of Stillwater, Guthrie, Oklahoma City, and Pawnee.
“We are happy to be filming this tender movie in Oklahoma with the support of a great crew, actors and the various communities who have welcomed us with open arms,” says director Timothy Armstrong in a news release.
“Cowgirls N’ Angels” is billed as a heartwarming movie that tells the story of Ida, a feisty and rebellious young girl, who has dreams of finding her father, a rodeo rider. While searching for her dad, she connects with the Sweethearts of the Rodeo, a team of young female rodeo riders run by former rodeo star Terence Parker. Recognizing Ida’s innate talent for trick riding, Terence recruits her for their ranks. Accepted wholeheartedly by her new “family,” Ida finds a new passion that redefines her life, and may also help her find the father she’s been searching for.
Jill Simpson, director of OF&MO, says in the release, “’Cowgirls N’ Angels’ is wonderful story, and we are excited that it will be filmed using Oklahoma as the backdrop. This high caliber project as well as several others slated to go into production in the near future provide Oklahoma crew with an increasing number of opportunities for employment and to expand their skill sets. Our current incentives make Oklahoma very competitive in the marketplace positioning the State to reap the benefits of a growing new industry here.”
Bailee Madison (“Just Go With It,” “Bridge to Terabithia”) leads the strong cast along with James Cromwell (“Babe,” “L.A. Confidential”), Alicia Witt (“Friday Night Lights,” “88 Minutes”), Frankie Faison (“The Silence of the Lambs,” “Meet the Browns”), Madison Burge (“Friday Night Lights,” “Seven Days In Utopia”), Leslie-Anne Huff (“MacKenzie Falls,” “Strawberry Cliff”), and Kathleen Rose Perkins (“The Island”).

Pictured below are Denise Williamson (Maura), Grey Damon (Hastings), Madison Burge (Becky) and FNL director of photography David Boyd. I’m guessing from all the red bows and shirts that this is a pep rally for the Lions.
