Michael B. Jordan Talks to MovieWeb About His New Film Red Tails

Posted by Kaitlin with No Comments

Can you tell us more about the character you play in Red Tails? There’s not a whole lot of information about Maurice ‘Bumps’ Wilson out there…

Michael B. Jordan: I want to talk to you about Red Tails. But it’s currently in post. There have been a lot of rewrites. We did a lot of reshoots. I am not sure, exactly, what the finished product is going to be right now. I play young flight officer Maurice Wilson. He is a Tuskegee Airman straight out of camp. He is straight out of flight training, he just got his wings, and he landed in Italy. He is a really young pilot, but he is eager to be a man. He is eager to fight. But he has a lot of learning to do. Some of the veteran pilots take him underneath their wing. They show him how it is done in a war. It’s like a freshman going into college for his first semester. The upperclassmen take the freshmen under their wing. They show him the ropes. They try to make him feel comfortable. They want to make him feel like a part of the crew. That he is one of the boys in this war. Because we are out there by ourselves. I’m not sure how familiar you are with the Tuskegee Airmen and their journeys, but during the early 1940s, we didn’t have any rights at all. They didn’t want us over there. They didn’t want African-Americans fighting in the war whatsoever. So we kept each other company. And we kept each other focused. For the war, we weren’t actually allowed to engage in air-to-air combat. We weren’t allowed to engage in any fighting, whatsoever. For the first six months, we were literally practicing, and dog fighting, and training. The first time that we went out on an actual mission, we were veterans. Because we’d been practicing for the first six months between ourselves. We weren’t allowed to actually fly. Or see any of the action. When we first got action, that is how our reputation started to build up. We got known for our flawless missions because we were already pros by the time we stepped into a plane and actually saw live combat.

You say that the script changed. Did the entire storyline of the film shift its focus?

Michael B. Jordan: The story did change. It is a sticky situation. I wish I could be more elaborate about it. I don’t know exactly what I can speak about. Or not. I don’t know which direction the film is taking in post. I want to talk about it. But I’m not really sure if that is a good idea.

WTAM Talks to Michael B. Jordan at the Emmys

Posted by Kaitlin with No Comments

Not every actor has the opportunity to star on three Emmy-nominated television shows, pal around Europe with Ne-Yo and Method Man while working on a George Lucas Film, and start his own production company, all before the age of 23. But for Michael B. Jordan this is the fortuitous turn his career has taken.

The current star of NBC’s “Friday Night Lights” let iheartradio tag-along with him as he attended his first Primetime Emmy® Awards after party. As an alum of HBO favorite “The Wire,” Jordan was able to reunite with old friends, party on HBO’s tab, and ogle “Entourage” star Emmanuelle Chriqui. Here’s an exclusive peek behind the velvet rope.

Was this your first time participating in the Emmy festivities? If so, what was it like?
I have been to the Daytime Emmys during my run on “All My Children” a few years ago and that was an incredible experience, but rubbing shoulders with Primetime nominees and winners was amazing. It’s some place I’ve imagined I would be sooner or later and it feels great to say I was there.

Michael B. Jordan To Guest Star on Katims’ Parenthood

Posted by Kaitlin with No Comments

Peter Krause’s Parenthood daughter, Haddie Braverman (played by Sarah Ramos), is about to score a touchdown with one of the football players from Friday Night LightsMichael B. Jordan, who played troubled East Dillon High quarterback Vince Howard, who Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler) took under his wing in Season 4, has signed on as the new love interest of the rebellious Braverman teen.

As of right now, Michael has signed on for just two episodes, but I hear the romance is going so well he could possibly come back for more lovin’.

Edge Magazine Profiles Michael B. Jordan

Posted by Kaitlin with No Comments

The sun is out in Los Angeles, CA as actor Michael B Jordan strolls into a neighborhood barbershop to get ready for his first night out in many months. He walks in and shakes hands with all the familiar faces that congratulate him on his work and patiently waits for his turn in the chair. Dressed cool and laid-back in Nike sweats, Jordan blends in perfectly with the crowd of guys looking to be transformed and shows no expectation of receiving any type of special treatment.  In fact he is so humble and pleasant it’s hard to believe he just finished shooting two seasons of the hit NBC show, Friday Night Lights or that he’s been a recognizable face in the industry since his role as Reggie Montgomery on the long running ABC soap opera, All My Children.

TV Squad Interviews Smollett, Lauria and Jordan About Season 4

Posted by Kaitlin with No Comments

Vince and Luke, Friday Night Lights

Jordan, Lauria and Smollett chatted with me about the big shoes they had to fill, love triangles and doing their own stunts. (Note: I saw the first run on DirecTV, but there are no major spoilers ahead.) Read a season 4 preview here.
How did you guys feel coming on this already-established show as the “new generation”?

Lauria: It’s a huge honor, for sure. I’m a huge fan of the show and I’ve watched all the episodes leading up to the fourth season. To go and become a part of it is really a dream come true. Definitely when we first started, I had this huge feeling of responsibility to try and live up to the standards of myself and so many other fans.

Were you worried about being accepted by fans who’d grown to love the original characters?

Jordan: You can’t really think about that … you can’t really get that inside your head, because people are going to blog, people are going to comment. Everyone has their own opinions, they have their own favorites and what not. But, you can’t compare yourself to other characters on the show because everybody has their own thing, their own way and they bring something different to the table. I think for us, it was just [about] coming in and figuring out our characters and being true to who they are.
Lauria: The writers did an amazing job of transitioning from Dillon to East Dillon really smoothly. I’ve found that all the die-hard fans of the show have even said that to us at different times. They said, “I didn’t know if I’d like the new school, or the new characters,” but it just happened so seamlessly that they love it. They’ve all been rallying behind us and really wanted to see this underdog school succeed. [The fans] are eased into it. Some of the characters graduate and move on, but many of the really awesome characters that we all love are still on the show. Landry and Matt Saracen, Tim Riggins, even Lyla shows up for a little bit and of course Aimee Teegarden’s Julie is going to be around, even in the fifth season. There’s some of the new, but it’s not like they got rid of the old. All the stuff that we love about ‘Friday Night Lights’ is still there and it’s back.
