NBC won the first Friday of the summer  season with a new (to broadcast) Friday Night Lights and two hours of Dateline.   It was probably even slower than normal because on top of all the repeats, it was the beginning of a holiday weekend.

Friday Night Lights fans can shake their fists in the air and ask “why didn’t NBC save that episode for a Friday when more people would be home!?”

The fourth season premiere of NBC’s “Friday Night Lights” had a very modest return. The show’s debut Friday drew 3.9 million viewers and a 1.2 preliminary rating among adults 18-49, landing the acclaimed small town drama in third place at 8 p.m. “Lights” was also down 25% from its third season opener in January of 2009. “Lights” led into a two-hour “Dateline” (5.3 million, 1.3).
